WHY PSYCHOLOGY?

When looking to make behaviour changes to positively impact health and wellbeing, people often invest in their nutrition and exercise regime whether engaging with a personal trainer, signing up to a gym, buying a healthy cookbook or working with a nutritionist.

However, despite these resources many people still struggle to form long-lasting changes. What starts out as a strong motivation to create a lifestyle change can often fall by the wayside. Fluctuating levels of motivation and confidence as well as competing life demands can impact how long changes are sustained for.

Through working with a wide range of clients, Hannah and Chloe have experienced the debilitating impact that self-criticism, negative comparisons with others and being afraid to make mistakes can have on an individual trying to make positive changes to their health. The mind often becomes an obstacle when it should be a resource. Stories of ‘not being good enough’, ‘I can’t do this’, ‘I am not an exerciser’, or feeling like a ‘failure’ can be overwhelming and difficult to manage

The Psychology of Movement brings in a missing piece of the puzzle - psychology. We help people overcome the hurdles and challenges they face when trying to create lasting change by addressing the psychological factors which hold people back from achieving their goals.

Chloe is a sport and exercise psychologist. Having originally started her career as a personal trainer, Chloe saw how the factors that helped and hindered people in their exercise journeys were often psychological, rather than physical. She had also experienced her own psychological challenges with exercise in trying to find balance and understand the factors that affected her motivation. Wanting to learn more, Chloe completed her BSc in Psychology at the University of Warwick and her Masters in Sport and Exercise Psychology at Brunel University, followed by the British Psychological Society’s Qualification in Sport and Exercise Psychology.
